Robin Pio Costa-Lahue

Robin was born and raised in Essex Fells, NJ. She graduated from the Essex Fells Grammar School and West Essex Regional High School. She went on to receive Associate in Arts and Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Urban Studies from Briarcliff College, Briarcliff Manor, NY. She later attended Montclair State College for a Masters in Sociology. Later she successfully completed a program for women in family owned business at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Immediately after graduating from college, Robin married Michael P. Lahue. Shortly after, they moved to Essex Fells where they remained to raise their two children Michael and Christina.

Robin grew up learning the family’s commercial real estate business, spending much of her free time with her father.  She traveled with her father to job sites and began helping him with his bookwork by the time she was nine. Upon her father’s premature death in 1974, she, along with the rest of the family, began running the business full time. The company prospered and grew. As new opportunities arose, Robin and Michael expanded into other related business entities, following in Anthony Pio Costa’s footsteps and adding their own vision and style to the legacy. In 1985 they created their new company, Rensselaer Commercial Properties. They received business of the year award in 2003 from the Montville Chamber of Commerce for the development of 2 Changebridge Rd., Montville, NJ.

Robin has drawn from her business and educational opportunities as well as the example shown by her parents to give back to her community and to many charitable organizations. She has been involved in the Essex Council Boy Scouts of America for many years. She re-created the Essex Fells Cub Scouts, Chaired the Friends of Scouting Campaign and participated in its development committee, earning the Good Scout Award in 1993. Robin has been actively involved in Rotary both in Fairfield and in the 7470 District. She and her family housed a child from Korea for the gift of life program, to receive open-heart surgery at the Newark Children’s Hospital. She served every office of her Rotary club including President in 1994. Rotary honored her as a Paul Harris Fellow for her efforts. Robin served as middle school representative for Kent Place School in Summit, NJ as well as participating in fundraisers for Delbarton School in Morristown, NJ. Robin received Woman of the Year award on September 21, 2007 from the John Crecco Foundation’s “Project Heartbeat”. The award has special significance to Robin since her father received man of the year award from the same entity in 1972. She continually supports the Anthony Pio Costa Memorial Library, dedicated to her father in 1985, donating a new sign for the site in 2008.

Robin’s business philosophy is to plan, build and manage her properties with excellence using integrity in dealing with clients, townships and professionals. Her personal philosophy includes family as a priority, teaching your children honesty and honor and providing for future generations, not only in her own family but in the world around us.
